San Diego’s Cortez Hill is one of the oldest residential neighborhoods in San Diego. It was named after the historic El Cortez Hotel that has now been converted into condos. North of the Core District and to the East of Little Italy it is a short distance from Highway 5 and Interstate 163.
Cortez Hill
Some of the original Victorian style dwellings of the first settlers are still present making it a very unique part of Downtown and bringing the old vintage feel to the area. On the West side of Cortez Hill there are many schools, churches and a pedestrian-friendly environment making it ideal for growing families. Because the majority of Cortez Hill is occupied by Residential buildings, it doesn’t have the commercial feel of many other downtown neighborhoods. A new addition to the neighborhood, Tweet Street Park, is a great place to take a stroll.
